Build a car and move it in creative ways with wind power
Materials in the box
Car frame
2 Axles
4 Wheels
4 Lug nuts
1 Cork
1 Paper plate
1 Craft stick
1 Straw
1 Skewer
5 Stickers
2 Paint colors
*Please note that if you choose to color your car, do so before you assemble it. Wait until it is completely dry before you begin assembly. Alternatively, if you choose only to decorate it with stickers, you can do so even after assembly.
How do I begin?
1. Assemble all the parts. Next, take the axle and insert a wheel into it. Ensure that the flat side of the wheel is facing inside.
2. Insert the lug nut. One side has a bigger hole than the other; it may need a couple tries before the axle goes through. Do not push it all the way through! The lug nut should just cover the axle.
3. Do the same with the other side. Repeat with the second axle.
4. Tape the axle to the car frame. The axles should be on the bottom when you rest the car frame.
5. You are now ready to work on the "sail" of the car. Ask Mom / Dad to make a slit with a knife or a pair of scissors, deep enough to insert the craft stick into the slit (about 1 mm deep).
5. Glue the cork to the car frame with the wider side of the cork facing down. Let it dry for about 20 - 30 minutes.
6. While the glue is drying, tape the paper plate to the craft stick.
7. Once the glue is dry, insert the paper "sail" into the cork.
8. Now you are ready to "drive" your car. Blow on the paper plate and see the car move forward.
What just happened?
The wind energy causes the toy car to move forward. You can try using a fan to see how far ahead the car moves. You can also take it outside to a windy spot and see how fast the car can go.
