How is Glue Made?

Picture
GLUE!
Materials
1/2 cup of flour

Materials from your house
A bowl
1/4 cup measure
1/4 cup water
Spoon to mix
Paper
Brush (optional)

How do I begin?

1. Put the 1/2 cup of flour in a bowl.

2.  Slowly add 1/4 cup of water, a little at a time, while stirring with the spoon. If you feel you need more water to reach the desired pasty consistency, do so; but add very little water at a time and keep mixing well.

3. Ta da! Your home-made non-toxic glue is ready! It should look like the picture above.

4. We have provided a Frog template with directions, a green cardstock, brown paper bag, and white paper plates for the eyes of the frog. You can make your brown paper bag frog, and see if your glue works well for this craft. We would love to see some pictures!

What just happened?

A chemical reaction took place when you mixed the flour with water. The flour binds to the water, making a sticky, pasty substance, called glue.
